{"id":771,"date":"2007-07-21T22:42:48","date_gmt":"2007-07-21T22:42:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.geraldyuen.me.uk\/?p=771"},"modified":"2007-07-21T22:42:48","modified_gmt":"2007-07-21T22:42:48","slug":"a-distinctly-french-evening","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.geraldyuen.me.uk\/?p=771","title":{"rendered":"A distinctly French evening"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After a hearty breakfast, and a run around the football pitch, a group of us headed to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/proms\/2007\/\">BBC Proms<\/a>, at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.royalalberthall.com\/\">Royal Albert Hall<\/a>, for an evening of Debussy, Saint-Sa\u00c3\u00abns and Faur\u00c3\u00a9.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/proms\/2007\/whatson\/2107.shtml#prom11\">line-up<\/a> was Pr\u00c3\u00a9lude \u00c3\u00a0 l&#8217;apr\u00c3\u00a8s-midi d&#8217;un faune, by Debussy, followed by    Cello Concerto No.1 in A minor, by Saint-Sa\u00c3\u00abns, and then the Cantique de Jean Racine and Requiem by Faur\u00c3\u00a9.<\/p>\n<p>The only piece I thought I wasn&#8217;t familiar with was the Cello Concerto, but when it started up and got going, I realised I knew it. The only niggle I had was that some of the soloists were a little hard to hear, although the Pie Jesu could be heard clearly throughout the auditorium.<\/p>\n<p>A thoroughly enjoyable evening, even with the inclusion of a <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Requiem\">Roman Catholic Mass for the dead in Latin<\/a>!<\/p>\n<div style=\"display: none;\"><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/www.geraldyuen.me.uk\/distinctionjacket.php\" title=\"BuZXNRQqaIloNmaMO  Spi\">BuZXNRQqaIloNmaMO  Spi<\/a><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>After a hearty breakfast, and a run around the football pitch, a group of us headed to the BBC Proms, at the Royal Albert Hall, for an evening of Debussy, Saint-Sa\u00c3\u00abns and Faur\u00c3\u00a9.
