Lost 12-3 to Nigel at table tennis this evening. (Yes, that’s fifteen games in total!) Losing is not a problem, but a certain spectator remarked “Ah well, at least you tried your best”. What is the purpose of this saying? Is it to say I will never beat Nigel, as I played my best and lost? (Although it does raise the question of how does someone else know if I’ve played my best?) Or is it one of those comments which are supposed to make you feel better, as long as you don’t attempt to understand the words?
Ah well, time for bed I think… 🙂
At leist you tried your best, equates to, you look like hell, and I think you might die from the effort.
I was the guy in primary school who could barly swim and for years never got his 10 meter certificate, HOWEVER i did get my ‘good effort’ one. (I was the only one to get this, mainly cos i was the only one who could manage the 10 meters) Its terriable that some egotisacal people like gerald can cut down my dreams of just trying your best, YES I AM THE SPECTATOR geralds speaks off. The important thing is to try your best! Like now where I’m trying my best to be funny
Death to Gerald and his discouraging words of darkness! Doing your best is the first and only thing that should be expected of anyone. Clearly Gerald does not know of the value and importance of doing one’s best and he cannot except an innocent recognition of effort. Must he take every friendly comment and disect it? Doom for Gerald I say… doom..
